Stuck at home
We pivoted overnight to create new physical and digital content to capture the ADC spirit.
Celebrate & spotlight ten Android Developer Challenge winners to drive further global developer acquisition. Then rethinking everything when the pandemic hit.
Rather than shelve months of filming when Covid pulled the in-person event, we adapted the series and its support materials to stand entirely on their own online, protecting Android's investment and the winners' moment.
Salvaged a cancelled flagship campaign, delivering the ten winner stories as a self-contained online series that still drove developer interest in the Challenge without an event behind it.
How it started
In late 2019, we started working on a series of films about the ADC programme. Ten winners would also receive our product design support and have their apps and journeys showcased at Google I/O 2020.
Then COVID happened
We had to rethink everything.
Stuck at home
We pivoted overnight to create new physical and digital content to capture the ADC spirit.
Zine of the times
Collaborating with leading journalists, illustrators and designers, we produced an eye-catching zine that could be posted around the world. We also made a digital version that received 500k hits in the first week alone.
Matching the artwork to the concept of each app, we selected incredible illustrators based in South Korea, Canada, Spain, Israel, New Zealand, the United States, Denmark and Mexico.
Showcase in a box
ADC winners and technology influencers also received custom branded boxes we designed.
They featured the zine with bespoke collectable items that enhanced each story to recreate the live Google I/O experience.
Two personal journeys
Alongside the launch video, we remotely created two short films interviewing developers at home.
We combined this footage with material shot earlier in the year and brought to life with bold and lively animations.
